Jackson County Community Theatre will present the first mainstage show of the 2021-22 season, Ken Ludwig’s “The Gods of Comedy,” on Sept. 17, 18, 19, 24 and 25 at Royal Off-the-Square Theatre in Brownstown.

The cost is $10 for senior citizens and students and $12 for adults. Tickets are available at jcct.org or in person at Family Drug in Brownstown and Artistic Impressions in Seymour.

After a year with no in-person shows, JCCT’s thespians are eager to perform. Ludwig’s clever wit is on full display in this improbable tale of a couple of Greek gods who come to life when a young classics professor unwittingly appeals for their help in a crisis. Havoc ensues on the campus as the Greeks find themselves amid the chaotic lusty life of a modern coed university.

JCCT audiences have had the chance to enjoy three previous Ludwig productions in recent years: “Baskerville,” “The Very Great Grandson of Sherlock Holmes” and “Leading Ladies.”

With the idea that JCCT patrons tend to prefer comedies for their entertainment, the play selection committee kept this in mind as they planned this first season after the restrictions of the pandemic during the last year.

Erin Moore is director. Stacey Williams is production manager. Cast members are John Boyken as Aristide/Aleksi/Ares; Amanda Dick as Daphne; Stephanie Strothmann as Dean Trickett; Jeremy Kinnett as Ralph; Rachel Morrow as Zoe/Brooklyn; Natalie Whan as Thalia; and Larry Hartley as Dionysus.

Stage manager is Melissa Slate-Bindschadler. Paul Keller oversees lights and sound, and Megan Keller is costumer. Joe Reynolds is set artist. The set is being constructed by several of the above cast and crew members and Joel McGill.

Due to the rapid spread of the Delta variant, JCCT and local health authorities strongly recommend masks and vaccinations against COVID. Unless a local mandate is in place at the time of the show, these are not required for admission, but JCCT leaders ask their patrons to mask up due to the close encounters involved in attending any indoor gathering to prevent spread of the virus. Masks will be available.
