Richard Gene Tormoehlen, age 76, of Kokomo, passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021, at Hoosier Christian Village, Brownstown, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Tormoehlen was a childhood member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan.

Richard was in the United States Navy from 1964-1969, serving as a submarine torpedoman. Over the years, Richard was a shop teacher for Muncie Northside Middle School, truck driver for Schneider Truck Lines, as well as a police officer in Maryland. He was passionate about old farm tractors, and rebuilding old cars, including Volvos and Mercedes.

Born on July 27, 1945, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour, he was the son of Elmer W. and Dorothy J. (Robbins) Tormoehlen, both of whom preceded him in death. His natural father was Richard H. Sutter. On October 1, 1977, at St. Boniface Church, Lafayette, Indiana, he married Lucy Jane Korty and she survives in Kokomo.

Survivors also include one daughter, Naomi Marie (Matthew) State of Indianapolis; one son, Martin Louis Tormoehlen of Indianapolis; two brothers: Roger Lee (Karen) Tormoehlen of Oxford, Indiana, and Gregory Lynn Tormoehlen (Becky Spurgeon) of Springfield, Kentucky; one sister, Sue Ann Rommel of Crothersville; six grandchildren: Nicholas Paul Tormoehlen, Miriam Gianna State, Rose Louise Tormoehlen, Tobias Sutter State, Elijah Richard Tormoehlen, and Xavier Augustine State.

Funeral services for Richard Gene Tormoehlen will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 19, 2021, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan, with Pastor Martin Keller officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday, August 19, 2021, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan.

Military honors will be presented by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans 47 and Vietnam Vets 7.

Interment will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan Cemetery Fund, or St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan.
