Shirley Mae (Bowman) Sandefur, age 85, a lifelong resident of Seymour, Indiana, passed from this life on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at Hoosier Christian Village in Brownstown, Indiana.

She was born on January 23, 1936 to the late Charles Franklin Bowman and the late Goldie Alice Rachel (Helt) Bowman. She graduated from Seymour High School in 1954 and on November 14, 1954 married Roy Wayne Sandefur of Brownstown, Indiana.

Shirley was a member of Reddington Christian Church for over 70 years where she faithfully served as financial secretary for several years as well as church secretary for 30 years. She enjoyed singing in the choir and working with the church youth group. She was quiet, dedicated and loved people unconditionally. Her hobbies included quilting by hand, jigsaw puzzles, writing stories and cooking.

She is survived by three daughters and one son: Cheryl Lee Elliott of Seymour, Tennessee; Georgia Ann Sharpe of Seymour, Tennessee; Brenda Sue (Kent) Bell of Seymour, Indiana; and David Wayne (Kathy) Sandefur of Ellettsville, Indiana. She is also survived by one brother, James (Jim) Bowman and his wife, Lvonne, of Seymour, Indiana and one sister, Jennie Lee Lutes, also of Seymour, Indiana. Surviving grandchildren include: Stephen Erik Sharpe, Benjamin Craig Elliott, Monica Sue Whitehead, Phillip Brent Elliott, Paul David Bell, Julie Nicole Gustavson, Stasie Jill Holder, Emily Ann Smith, Karyn Marie Sandefur and Eric Ray Sandefur. Also surviving are fourteen great-grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years; one great- granddaughter, Enya Jade Elliott; two sons-in-law, Stephen Ellis Sharpe and Gary Lee Elliott; two brothers, Charles William (Bill) Bowman and Dewey Dean Bowman; and five sisters, Glenna Lucille Baldwin, Ruth Irene Montgomery, Bonnie Belle Dailey, Rosa Nadine Bowman and Donna Rae Bowman.

The family will receive friends on Saturday July 10, 2021 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Woodlawn Family Funeral Chapel. Memorial Services will begin at 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Marty Wright officiating. Burial will be held at Reddington Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be directed to either the Alzheimer’s Association or Macular Degeneration Research.
