Officers with the North Vernon Police Department are investigating two thefts reported Thursday morning.

The first investigation started with officers responding to an alarm shortly before 6 a.m. at Orscheln Farm and Home, 2110 N. State Road 3, according to a news release from Sgt. Andrew Richmond.

Sgt. Todd Beam reported finding a front window that had been broken to allow someone to gain entry into the building, police said.

Police discovered someone had stolen Dewalt battery-operated tools and Dewalt tool accessory packs, including reciprocating saw blade sets, drill bit sets and other items. Detective Nick Megel was called to the scene to process the evidence.

The stolen tools will not have cases or won’t have matching cases, Richmond said.

The second theft was reported at about 8 a.m. at an apartment construction site on State Road 7 just north of U.S. 50.

Officer Matt Staples received the report and was told a lock had been cut off of a storage trailer and someone had taken a large gas-operated demolition saw from the trailer, police said.
