Joseph Edward Ross, 79, of Madison, passed away at 2:45 a.m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at the residence of his son. He was born on June 1, 1941, in Dupont, the son of Stanton & Elizabeth (Pearman) Ross. He was a former resident of Hope, moved to Sardinia in 2005 and has lived in the Madison area since 2011. He worked at Ralph Hines Texaco from 1968-1971; Kiel Brothers Oil Company in Columbus from 1971-1984; J.E. Ross Construction from 1984-2004 and JHS Construction & Fuel from 2005 to the present. He was a member of the Hope Volunteer Fire Department for 10 years. Joe loved to work and travel, but most importantly he loved to spend time with his family. He married Carolyn Sue Bush on June 5, 1965 in Columbus and she preceded him in death on October 8, 2020. Survivors include his daughter, Elizabeth (Troy) Claycamp of Seymour; his sons, Timothy (Jamie) Ross of Madison and Jonathon (Amber) Ross of Hope; sisters, Kathy Hill of Shelbyville and Ruby M. Deaton of Westport; grandchildren, Jacob (Shay) Ross of Westport, Joshua (Breanna) Ross of Columbus, Brittney (Dewey) Barrett of Greensburg, Joe (Kirsten) Ross of Columbus, Haley Wingler of Belleville, Illinois, Hayden Goodchild of Madison, Stanton Ross of Madison, Tyler (Anna) Claycamp and Levi (Josie) Claycamp both of Seymour; great grandchildren, Jaxson Striecker of Scottsburg, Ryker and Haddie Ross of Columbus, Brayden and Jayden Barrett of Greensburg, Addilyn, Grayson and Weslynn Claycamp of Seymour and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Gordon Ross and sisters, Jenny Plummer and Thelma Ross. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Rev. Connie Barr officiating. Burial will follow at the Westport Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Friday, January 1, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
