Brownstown girls, boys both win

The Brownstown Central girls opened a 28-16 lead at the end of the first half and rolled to a 57-42 win over South Knox on the road Tuesday night.

The Braves held a 17-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and were in front by 12 points at the half and 42-30 going into the fourth quarter.

Katherine Benter topped the Braves with 22 points and eight rebounds. Maddy Hackman scored 15 points on five 3-pointers, Kalee Borden had seven rebounds and Emma Klinge had five assists to go along with five points.

The Braves, 11-4 and winners of four straight games, will travel to Madison on Tuesday.

Brownstown boys advance

Brownstown Central’s boys basketball team advanced to the semifinals of the ONB Classic at North Daviess in Elnora by defeating Rock Creek Academy 64-44 on Tuesday night.

Jack Benter, Nathan Koch and Carter Waskom hit 3-pointers in the first quarter to spark the Braves to an 18-9 lead, and Levi Stahl scored seven points in the second quarter to help the Braves to a 37-22 lead at the half.

Benter and Waskom were high scorers for the Braves with 12 points each.

The Braves (4-2) will play Southridge at 5 p.m. Friday.
