Officers with North Vernon Police Department continue to investigate the death of a person found Monday near the city park at 604 N. Park St.

The investigation started after police were called to the area of the park near FDR Drive at 12:44 a.m. after someone reported they had seen a person lying in the grass behind a nearby business, according to a news release from Sgt. Andrew Richmond.

Officers responding to the area arrived and were able to determine the person was dead.

Police have not released the name of the person pending notification of next of kin. More information will be released as it becomes available.
