Marvin Lee Wischmeier, age 87, of Brownstown, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2019, at Lutheran Community Home, Seymour.

Mr. Wischmeier was a life-long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan, where he held numerous offices in the church and school.

Marvin was a life-long, self-employed grain and dairy farmer.

He was the Organizer, Charter Member, and President of Grassy Fork Township Volunteer Fire Department, which was established in 1968 after countless hours of work. Marvin served as Chief of the fire department for 45 years. He was also the Organizer and Founding Father of Tampico Tractor Pulls, a Pioneer Seed Corn Salesman for more than 30 years, and a Salesman for Sauers Mutual Insurance for over 50 years.

Marvin loved spending time with his family. He instilled in his family the value of always attending church and the ethic of hard work. He also loved attending county fairs, was a big supporter of 4-H, enjoyed square dancing with the Star Promenaders, and playing dartball.

Born on February 8, 1932, in Brownstown, he was the son of Walter and Ella Wessel Wischmeier, both of whom preceded him in death. On September 14, 1952, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sauers, he married Norma Jean Darlage and she survives in Brownstown.

Marvin and Norma’s children are: Jane Ellen Meyer, deceased, Carol Jean (James) Lambring of Brownstown, Judith Ann (Mark) Tape of Vallonia, Jerry Lee (Dawn) Wischmeier of Brownstown, and Tim Kyle (Kandy) Wischmeier of Crothersville; 12 grandchildren: Megan (Justin) Blomenberg, Jamey (John) Doriot, Christopher (Kasee) Lambring, Matthew Meyer, Clinton (Erin) Tape, Courtney (Andrew) Fust, Lance (Elizabeth) Tape, Jerrica Wischmeier, Colton Wischmeier, Kylee Wischmeier, Kelsey Jo Wischmeier, and Kassidy Wischmeier; 14 great-grandchildren: Ava Blomenberg, Emma Doriot, Noah Lambring, Sophia Doriot, Ella Blomenberg, Elliott Lambring, Krista Blomenberg, Sawyer Tape, Finley Fust, Jack Doriot, Elaina Tape, Miles Lambring, Arthur “AJ” Fust, and Eloise Tape; one sister, Marilyn (Robert) Benter of Brownstown; and son-in-law, Gary Meyer of Seymour.

Besides his parents, Marvin was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jane Ellen Meyer; brothers, sisters-in-law: Leroy (Erma) Wischmeier, Noble (Melba) Wischmeier, Alvin (Ruth) Wischmeier, and Waldo (Janet, Linda) Wischmeier; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Harry (Edna) Darlage, Ruby (Emil) Stuckwisch, Raymond (Frances) Darlage, Archie Darlage, and Olga (Martin) Eggersman.

Funeral services for Marvin Lee Wischmeier will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2019, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan, with Pastor Martin Keller officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan.

Interment will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan, Trinity Lutheran High School or Donor’s choice.
