NORTH VERNON

Lowell Norris Cobbs, 91, of North Vernon, passed away at 4:39 a.m. on Monday, June 10, 2019, at the Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour.

Born October 18, 1927, in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana, Mr. Cobbs was the son of the late Glen Leroy and Stella (Manning) Cobbs. He married Dorothy Marie Haines on May 9, 1946 in Uniontown; she preceded him in death on December 6, 2012.

Mr. Cobbs was a 1945 graduate of Hayden High School and served 24 years in the U.S. Army from 1946 until his retirement in 1969 as a Master Sergeant, stationed at Fort Knox Army Base in Kentucky; he then went on to work thirteen years for the North Vernon Water Company, retiring in 1993.

He was a member of Hayden United Methodist Church and a life member of Matt Hester Post #2021 V.F.W. in North Vernon and the American Legion Post 89 in Seymour. He enjoyed bass fishing, target shooting, hunting and bowling. He won the city bowling league.

Survivors include his daughter, Diana (James) Jackle of Huntingburg; brother, Terry Hollowell of Mobile, Alabama; sisters, Kay Lewis of Seymour and Carol Rench of Eaton; and sister-in-law, Mary Abell of Scipio.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and sons, Michael and Patrick Cobbs.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2019, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, June 15, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery with military graveside rites.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Hayden United Methodist Church.
