Relay for Life sets team captain meeting

The Relay for Life of Columbus team captain meeting is at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Columbus City Utilities, 1111 McClure Road.

Tuesday also is the T-shirt order and sponsor deadline for all participating teams.

The Relay for Life of Columbus event, “I Relay — What’s Your Superpower?” is from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. June 22 at Donner Park in Columbus. Any survivor wanting a purple survivor shirt or participant wanting a gray shirt in their desired size must be registered by Tuesday.

The group conducted a team captain meeting April 9 at Columbus City Utilities. The event already had 18 teams with 120 participants who had raised more than $23,660 for the American Cancer Society. Individuals and teams can still register at relayforlife.org/columbusin.

Event co-chairwoman Terry Kutsco recognized caregivers and survivors during the meeting. She also gave a mission moment on April’s Minority Cancer Awareness Month.

Josh Richey from ACS’s North Central Region gave a presentation on ACS’s FUNdraising via Facebook. The average participant raises $150.

Food trucks are being recruited to sell items June 22 at Donner Park with a percentage of sales going to Relay for Life. Contact Kutsco with any information.

Teams should email luminaria names and photos (if available) in honor of cancer survivors and in memory of loved ones to [email protected].

Marilyn Kelley shared an Avon fundraiser on selected products with 30% back to each Relay for Life participant with no tax or shipping. There is no minimum sales per team or participant.

Upcoming fundraisers include:

  • Rumble for the Cure motorcycle ride starting at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mann’s Harley-Davidson in Edinburgh. The cost is $20 per rider or $35 for rider and passenger. The ride ends around 3 p.m. at the Hope Volunteer Fire Department, where there is a live auction and a celebration with food and music.
  • Luminaria sales for $10 in memory of loved ones or in honor of cancer survivors. ESA One Step One Miracle is selling them in Seymour. Contact Jan Engel at 812-528-0549.
  • Field of Dreams will sell Baby Back Blues BBQ at the Relay for Life.
