Judith Ann “Judy” Love, 66, of North Vernon, passed away at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2019, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.

Born September 1, 1952, in New Albany, Judy was the daughter of James Edwin Bunch Sr. and Evelyn Lucille (Spath) Bunch. She married Albert “Al” Love on August 17, 1974, in New Albany; he survives.

Judy was a 1970 graduate of New Albany High School in New Albany. She received her bachelor’s degree in 1974 from I.U. Southeastern, her Master’s in Education in 1978 from I.U. Columbus, and in 1998 she received a Master’s in Curriculum and Administration from I.U. Bloomington. Judy taught 7th and 8th grade at St. Mary’s School in North Vernon, and was a teacher, assistant principal, and principal for Jennings County Schools where she also worked for a time in the central office. She was also a senior associate for Schlechty Center in Louisville, Kentucky, for the last 15 years.

Judy’s memberships included the Hayden United Methodist Church, NAESP-National Association of Elementary School Principals, IASP-Indiana Association of School Principals, NCHA-National Cutting Horse Association where she was a member of the National Stallion and Breeders Committee, AQHA-American Quarter Horse Association, and was a member and former president of Alpha Omega Chapter of Psi Iota Xi.

Judy received many awards, including Kentucky Colonel, National Distinguished Principal in 2002, Indiana District 15 Principal of the Year 2001, Indiana Principal of the Year 2001, and the Jennings County Schools Sunshine Award for work with children of multiple handicaps. She was ranked in the top ten English Pleasure Riders and was inducted into the Hayden, Indiana, Hall of Fame in 2002. Judy enjoyed traveling and horses.

Surviving with her husband, Albert “Al” Love of North Vernon, is son, Alex (Amanda) Love of Evansville; parents, James Bunch Sr. and Evelyn Bunch both of Seymour; exchange students, Theis Hermann and Jan Hermann, both of Germany, Reda Akdad of Louisville, and Yassine El Kabaili of Morocco; brother, James Bunch Jr. of Seymour; sister-in-law, Karen Bunch of New Albany; and a niece, Brooke Bunch of Pekin.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at the Hayden United Methodist Church in Hayden with the Pastor Matt Snodgrass, Rev. Edward Meade, Pastor Bill Roberts and Father Daniel Staublin officiating. Family and friends may call at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service on Monday, April 29, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Burial will follow the service in the Hayden Cemetery.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Judy Love Community Foundation Endowment for Educators Focused on Student Engagement or Alex Love Continuing Education Fund.
