The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department said a portion of State Road 235 east of Medora Covered Bridge has collapsed.

The collapse occurred near County Road 460W.

The road is closed from Medora to State Road 135 until further notice.

Lt. Adam Nicholson said the collapse occurred around noon.

Employees with the State Highway Department were on scene to fix the road, he said.

Nicholson said he was told the department believes flooding has contributed to the collapse, which was several feet of roadway.

“If a car hit it, then I think it would be pretty bad so they had to close it,” he said.
