The Compassionate Friends’ 22nd annual Worldwide Candle Lighting will unite family and friends around the globe in lighting candles for one hour to honor the memories of the sons, daughters, brothers, sisters and grandchildren who left too soon.

Locally, the candles will be lit at 7 p.m. Sunday at Vienna Baptist Church, 11 W. Leota Road, Scottsburg. Anyone planning to attend is asked to bring a snack to share, a framed picture of their child and a votive candle if you have one.

Hundreds of thousands of people around the world will commemorate and honor the memory of all children gone too soon. The event is designed to create a virtual 24-hour wave of light as it moves from time zone to time zone.

The ceremony gives bereaved families everywhere the opportunity to remember their children so that their lights may always shine.
