Gregory A. Monroe, age 72, of Poland, passed away at 11 p.m. Friday, November 30, 2018, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. He was born in Hartford City on August 4, 1946, the son of Arthur Dean & Dorta Eggly Monroe.

He was a 1964 graduate of Blackford County High School. He joined the United States Marine Corp following high school, and was a veteran after serving two tours in Vietnam.

Greg worked as a lineman and retired from Ameritech after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Orthodox Christian Church.

He was an avid reader, loved his dogs, and enjoyed being home with his family.

He is survived by his wife of thirty years, Rita (Jaynes) Voss-Monroe of Poland, eight children, Travis (Heather) Monroe of Spencer, Troy (Carrie) Monroe of Ellettsville, Amber Monroe of Spencer, John (Megan) Voss of Springfield, IL, Lori Ann (Rick) Hoskins of Nashville, Jennifer Platter of Spencer, Charles (Chrissy) Voss of Portage, and Joe (Lisa) Voss of Spencer, two sisters, Linda Hawkins of Montpelier and Marsha Bredogg of Hartford City, 18 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Jake Voss, and two brothers, Ron Benedict and Tony Benedict.

Private services were held at All Saints Orthodox Christian Church in Bloomington. The service was presided over by Priest-Monk Macarius, who is also Greg’s Godfather, and reading and serving for the service was Greg’s grandson, Monk Nicholas. Burial followed at Chambersville Cemetery in Spencer.

A private family viewing was held prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to the Owen County Humane Society through the funeral home.

Arrangements were in care of West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer.
