Tribune staff reports

The third annual Guinn reunion was Sept. 30 at the picnic grove at St. Paul Lutheran Church Borchers.

The reunion honored the descendants of Caleb B. and Mary Guinn (Russell, Hubert, Forrest and Faye Guinn).

Gordon Surenkamp blessed the meal, which began at 12:30 p.m. After lunch, Cindy Peters called the meeting to order around 1:30 p.m.

Secretary Jessica Harmeyer read the minutes from last year’s reunion.

Larry Guinn said there was $150 left from last year’s collection and no collection would be made this year. The shelter rental is still $35 and postage/postcards are $15, so the family has $100 left to put toward the 2019 reunion.

An announcement was made about the sign-up sheet. If anyone has an address change, name change or name additions, they are encouraged to provide that to Harmeyer.

Kathleen Surenkamp’s birthday was the same day as the reunion, so everyone sang “Happy Birthday” to her.

Linda Guinn followed up with more information regarding the genetic ancestry test that was done last year regarding a stowaway who was raised by a Guinn around the 1790s.

Donna Arnold gave an update about Betty Zike since she could not be at the reunion. She is doing well, and special acknowledgement was given to her for the outstanding care she continues to give to her mother.

An update also was given that the Guinn family would be adding two new additions in October. Jessica Peters Harmeyer and Ashley Schryer Bishop are both expecting boys in the coming weeks.

A special “thank you” was given to Larry and Linda Guinn and Jeff and Cindy Peters for coordinating the event. A “thank you” also was given to the entire family for another great turnout.

Next year, the reunion will be at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at the picnic grove at St. Paul Lutheran Church Borchers.

Everyone is encouraged to bring a dish to share with all. Each person was asked to bring their own paperware and drinks for an easy cleanup.
