Brown pitches in championship series, earns big honor from Brewers

JACKSON, TN — The Biloxi Shuckers fell to the Jackson Generals 7-3 on Wednesday in the Southern League Championship series, evening the series at a game apiece.

Seymour native Zack Brown got the start on the mound for the Shuckers, pitching 2.1 innings. He recorded one walk, five runs (all earned) and six hits for the Shuckers.

The Generals trailed 3-1 after one inning before scoring another run in the second, three in the third and two in the sixth.

The series is now back in Biloxi for the final three games of the series. The third game was played on Friday evening.

The Shuckers are the Double-A baseball affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Thursday afternoon, the Brewers announced that Brown was named the organization’s Minor League Pitcher of the Year.

Brown finished 9-1 with a 2.44 ERA, with 36 walks and 116 strikeouts in 22 games (21 starts) with the Shuckers. He led both the Southern League and organization in ERA and ranked among the league leaders in WHIP (2nd, 1.05), opponent batting average (2nd, .207) and fewest walks per nine innings for starting pitchers (2nd, 9.91).

Brown was named the Southern League’s Most Outstanding Pitcher and was a midseason and postseason All-Star.

He is expected to be honored at an upcoming Milwaukee Brewers game.
