Owls rained out of opener

BLOOMINGTON

The Seymour girls golf team had its first official practice Friday and found themselves in their first match of the season three days later.

The Owls competed in the Bloomington Invitational at Bloomington Country Club on Monday, but the event was cut short.

However, what was supposed to be an 18-hole day for the 21 competing teams dwindled down to about 13 to 14 holes. Rain started pouring down, and the initial 30-minute delay turned into a cancellation after it continued to come down.

All competitors teed off on different holes, so no scores were able to be recorded. However, Seymour coach Jim Hoffman, who is in his first season with the girls team, was able to get a first look at his players in competition.

“It’s a really good start for them,” Hoffman said. “This difficult course, fast greens coming right out of the shoot is a really good test. It looks like we’ve got plenty of potential moving forward.”

Seymour will look to get a full 18 holes in Wednesday when it hosts the Seymour Invitational at Shadowood Golf Course.
