Paris Crossing High School alumni gather for 47th time

The 47th annual Paris Crossing High School alumni gathering, represented by the three former schools of Lovett, Marion and Paris Crossing, was June 22 at The Pines Evergreen Room in Seymour.

President Ray Hughes welcomed the 120 attending and guests. Registration and the social hour began at 5 p.m. The buffet dinner began at 6:30 p.m., followed by the program at 7:30 p.m.

Hughes presented three $600 scholarships to graduating seniors who live in Lovett, Marion or Montgomery townships in Jennings County.

Since 1993, 58 students have received scholarships through the program.

Those receiving scholarships this year were:

Mariah Grider, the daughter of Cris and Gennie Grider, who plans to attend Hanover College to study kinesiology and physiology with plans to work in the field of dietetics and nutrition.

Kaitlynn Davidson, the daughter of Roger and Nicole Davidson, who plans to attend the University of Indianapolis and study visual communication design. She hopes to be employed in web design, internet marketing or related fields.

Calin Kinney, the son of C.D. and Susan Kinney, who plans to attend IUPUI and study engineering. He hopes to return to Jennings County and benefit the community in financial, environmental and spiritual aspects.

Nedra Nolte Short gave the secretary report, and Mary Lou Malcomb Nugent gave the treasurer report.

The slate of officers for the 2019 alumni was presented by president Hughes. The slate was approved by the alumni.

The 2019 officers elected are as follows:

President, Richard Young 1956; first vice president, Niles Layman 1955; second vice president, Hughes 1958; secretary, Short 1956; treasurer, Nugent 1957; publicity, Richard Young 1956; nominations, Hughes 1958; memoriam, Fairy Rose Ray McGuire 1957, and Mollie Carson Corbin Family 1956; ways and means, Linda Bridges Patterson 1958; banquet committee, Sharon Hughes Galliher 1957; scholarship committee, Jane Kinder Reynolds 1956, Sharon Hughes Galliher 1957, and Margaret Maupin Hendricks 1956; programs, Reynolds 1956 and Judith Kinder Smith 1961.

The honored classes were recognized. Those attending from the 70-year class of 1948 were Paul Green, Roger Morin, Eugene Waldon Butters, Anna Marie Branham Mousa and Betty Stoner McIntosh.

Attending from the 60-year class of 1958 were Martha Malcomb Davis, Mary Frances Johnson, Linda Bridges Patterson, Ray Hughes, David Childs, Mary Sue Green and J.W. Simmons.

All teachers in attendance were recognized. Martha Malcomb Davis, was recognized as alumni traveling the farthest from Colorado.

The class of 1947, was the oldest class present. Those attending were Margaret Bridges Young, Anna Marie Branham Mousa and Doris Darin Stahl.

The memorial service for the deceased members of this year was conducted by Mollie Carson Corbin with Denise and Dan Corbin, assisted by Mary Lou Malcomb Nugent.

Deceased members are Marie Walker Hall 1942, Dean Erickson 1950, Bridie McIntosh Adams 1952, Jean Morin Thomas 1953, Charles Wilkerson 1956, Wilma Branham Hughes 1954, Clara Akers Campbell 1957, Helen Mullikin Augustin 1957, Max Marling 1958, Harold Davis 1957, John Wright 1957, Jerry Shephard 1958, Nancy Scudder Simmons 1958, Robert Amis, Sharon Malcomb Fanus 1961, Roland Baker 1948, Robert Green 1954, Cleta Sparkman Ragan 1956 and Norman E. Barker 1957.

Two alumni couples of Paris Crossing High School celebrating 66th wedding anniversaries were, Paul and Cora Moore Green and Lowell and Velma Reese Peacock.

Dan and Denise Corbin led the alumni in songs. Members donated items for the auction to raise funds for the alumni scholarships. Auctioneer Rusty P. Nail (alias Dan Corbin) was assisted by Ray Hughes.

Hughes closed the meeting with adjournment and Brother Dan Corbin gave the benediction.

The 2019 alumni gathering will start at 5 p.m. June 28 at The Pines Evergreen Room.
