Mr. James A. “Jimi” Shelton Jr., 64, of Seymour, passed away on Monday, July 23, 2018 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus. He was born in Seymour on December 2, 1953 to the late James and Dorothea (Golden) Shelton Sr.

Funeral services will be at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Saturday, July 28 at 11 am with Revs. Andrew Currao and Joseph Barlau officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

Family and friends may call at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Friday from 4-8 pm and Saturday from 10 am until time of service.

On May 5, 1979 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, he married Janet Mellenbruch; she survives. He was employed by the city of Seymour at the Freeman Field Maintenance Building for many years before working as a Field Service Representative for Indiana American Water Company for 19 years. He was a very gentle man who loved his family, grandchildren and friends. Jim enjoyed playing music, especially when he played drums with the band Tailspin for many years. He always looked forward to eating breakfast with the Breakfast Club at the Townhouse Cafe. One of his greatest enjoyments was being a Papaw.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Janet Shelton; children, Amanda (Matt) Hayes and Jeremy Shelton; grandchildren, Evy, Aria and Destiny; stepmother, Lil Shelton; siblings, Jerome Shelton, Deidre Shelton, Melvin Cherry, Raymond Brown, Robert Brown, Alethia Ramsey, Shirley Mann and Mary Brown; sisters-in-law, Linda (Rich) Steele and Marilyn Mellenbruch; and brother-in-law, David (Peg) Mellenbruch.

He is preceded in death by his parents; grandmother, Blanche Maddex Smith; and siblings, Teresa Shelton, Gregory Mann, Marshall Brown and James Brown.
