The three state representatives serving parts of Jackson County recently were selected to serve on interim study committees.

District 69 Rep. Jim Lucas, R-Seymour, will serve on the Public Policy Committee.

“I am looking forward to taking a look at the gaming industry in the state due to the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision striking down the federal law banning sports betting,” Lucas said. “Interim study committees give us the chance to hear the thoughts and opinions of experts and the public. This summer will help us lay the groundwork for bills that we could introduce next session.”

District 65 Rep. Chris May, R-Bedford, will serve on the Courts and the Judiciary Committee, which will examine all requests for new courts or changes in jurisdiction of existing courts, the adequacy of the statewide computer system used by the Department of Child Services and other issues relating to that agency.

District 73 Rep. Steve Davisson, R-Salem, will serve on Public Health, Behavioral Health and Human Services Committee.

Interim study committee hearings, which typically occur at the Statehouse in Indianapolis, may be viewed live online at iga.in.gov. This site also provides committee calendars and meeting agendas. Members of the public are welcomed to attend and testify.

Lucas, May and Davisson also will serve as members of the Military Base Planning Council.

Lucas’ district includes part of Brownstown Township and all of Hamilton, Jackson, Redding, Vernon and Washington townships, while May’s district includes Pershing and Salt Creek townships in Jackson County. Davisson’s district includes the remainder of Brownstown Township and all of Carr, Driftwood, Grassy Fork and Owen townships in Jackson County.
