NORTH VERNON — North Vernon police arrested two people after a traffic stop near a construction zone Thursday evening.

Police were sent to the area of State Road 750 near Highway 50 about a possible intoxicated driver heading toward the Butlerville area in a silver Honda car, said Sgt. Andrew Richmond, North Vernon Police Department spokesman.

A witness was able to give officers the license plate of the car, he said.

Officer Wes Thayer located and pulled over the car after watching it speed in a construction zone after turning onto State Road 750, Richmond said. Thayer requested that Jennings County Sheriff Department Sgt. Allen Ritchie and K9 Vampir checked the car, and the dog alerted to the odor of drugs inside the vehicle, Richmond said.
