Congressman hosting art competition

Rep. Trey Hollingsworth is inviting high school students from across Indiana’s Ninth District to enter submissions into the 2018 Congressional Art Competition.

The competition is open to all students in grades 9 through 12 in the Ninth District, which includes Jackson County. Four winners will be selected, with the grand prize winner having their artwork displayed in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., for an entire year alongside winners from other congressional districts.

Last year’s winner was Jenna Townsend from New Albany.

Submissions should focus on the theme of “Traditions,” and students are permitted to submit up to two entries.

There are seven categories of original artwork that are eligible to be submitted for consideration — paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media, computer-generated art and photography.

The submissions should measure no larger than 26 inches by 26 inches by 4 inches, including frame. While submissions are not required to be framed during consideration, the four winning pieces must be framed if they are selected.

The deadline to submit artwork is April 11. Students wishing to submit their work for consideration may call the Jeffersonville office at 812-288-3999 to get further details. A completed student information and release form must accompany each entry.
