If you’re tired of being cooped up and looking for something interesting and fun to do, Southern Indiana Center for the Arts is offering an Almost Spring Sampler Series to get you out of the house and let your creative juices flow.

This series will give you hands-on experience working with clay, experimenting with a one-cup dirty pour using acrylic paint on canvas and learning how to use chalk pastels with glue borders.

“We always try to do projects for first-timers and those who have no previous art experience, but anyone is welcome to come,” said instructor Darnell Dukes. “This is a great way to make some nice art pieces for yourself or to give away without having to purchase startup materials of your own.”

Tuesday evening classes will be at 6 p.m. for those ages 16 and up. Class dates are Feb. 20, pottery owl with Betty Johnson; Feb. 27, acrylic pour, three techniques with Darnell Dukes; and March 6, chalk pastels with Stephanie Mysak. Participants will do line work Feb. 27 for the March 6 class.

Student classes for ages 9 to 15 will be at 11 a.m. Saturdays. Class dates are Saturday, chalk pastels with Mysak; Feb. 24, pottery owl with Johnson; and March 3, acrylic pour, three techniques with Dukes.

Both sessions will be limited to 12 students. A minimum of five students is needed to have classes lasting about one and a half hours.

All supplies and instructions are included in the price, which is $48 for SICA members and $60 for nonmembers.

Preregistration and prepayment (debit and credit cards can be taken over the phone) are required no later than Wednesday by calling 812-522-2278 or emailing sica [email protected].

Samples of the projects can be seen on SICA’s website, soinart.com, and Facebook page.

The center is located at 2001 N. Ewing St., Seymour.
