Police: Man molested child

A 30-year-old man has been arrested for child molesting after a concerned father reached out to Seymour police.

Onelfer Salazar of Seymour was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 12:04 a.m. Thursday and was being held without bond pending his initial hearing.

Salazar was arrested after the Seymour Police Department received a call around 7:10 p.m. Wednesday from a man who wanted officers to conduct a welfare check on his 9-year-old daughter, Cpl. Devin Cornwell said.

“(The father) had a conversation with (his daughter) about an hour prior, and she had made comments that led him to believe she wasn’t safe and that she was possibly being abused,” Cornwell said.

The girl lived with her mother and Salazar, the mother’s boyfriend, on the south side of Seymour.

Because the family only spoke Spanish in the home, Cornwell said a translator was called in to assist with the language barrier.

The mother and Salazar agreed to go to the police station to be interviewed, Cornwell said. Child Protective Services also was called in to interview the child.

During his interview, Salazar confessed to forcing the girl to touch him in a sexual manner at least six times over the past two months, Cornwell said.

Police learned during the interviews a 4-year-old child was in the room when the incidents occurred, but it wasn’t clear if the child saw anything.
