Rumpke officials recently conducted the annual Neighbor Night at the Medora Landfill & Recycling Center.

This year’s event was at new Medora Recycling Center with nearly 100 neighbors in attendance for dinner and tours of the landfill and recycling center.

“As a family company, we enjoy getting together with our neighbors and friends each year for this event,” said Ralph Collins, manager of the landfill and recycling center.

The awards ceremony highlighted the night. Guests were invited to bring a dessert or side dish to share, and a panel of judges recognized the best entries.

Betty Clampitt and her chicken Dorito casserole won the Golden Fork Award for best side dish. Esta Cross and her homemade apple pie won the Golden Spoon Award for best dessert.

The Carr Township Conservation Club fried fish, and sides and desserts were provided by Flying Pink Pig BBQ in Seymour.

Rumpke has hosted the event for more than 25 years.

Rumpke employs 40 people at its Medora District, including drivers, mechanics, equipment operators, laborers, office personnel and managers/supervisors. The district includes a landfill, recycling center, hauling operation and maintenance garage.
