Man stopped in Henry County with 5 pounds of fentanyl, police say


A California man faces federal drug charges after police found fentanyl in his car during a Henry County traffic stop, officers said.

Members of the Proactive Criminal Enforcement team, a task force patrolling Interstate 70 looking for drug-traffickers, arrested Gustavo Romero, 41, after finding two bags containing fentanyl, a highly addictive painkiller, according to police reports.

A Henry County sheriff’s deputy stopped a car in Henry County on Monday afternoon along eastbound I-70. The driver was behaving suspiciously, police said.

Officers found bags containing 2.2 pounds each of fentanyl, as well as a methamphetamine pipe the driver discarded on the roadway, reports state.

Romero is being held in federal custody in Indianapolis pending formal charges.
