County unemployment rate increases

Jackson County’s unemployment rose to 3.9 percent in June from 3.7 percent in May, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce’s most recent report released Monday.

The number of people with jobs in June, however, rose by 280 to 23,307 during the same period. Unemployment claims also rose from 845 in May to 910 in June.

In June 2015, the county’s unemployment rate stood at 4.0.

Jackson County’s rate was the 76th lowest in the state. Dubois County had the lowest rate at 3.3, while Greene County had the highest at 6.7.

Other surrounding counties, their rates and rankings are Bartholomew 3.4 (90th); Brown 4.0 (66th); Jennings 4.5 (46th); Washington 4.6 (45th); Scott 5.2 (21st); Monroe 5.4 (13th); and Lawrence 5.6 (11th).
