Postmark recognizing Brownstown’s bicentennial available

The third in the series of pictorial postmarks for this year’s bicentennial celebrations was unveiled in a public ceremony April 8 for the 200th anniversary of the platting of Brownstown.

Pictorial postmarks are event postmarks offered by the United States Postal Service to commemorate local community events.

The postmarks are available and may be picked up at the Brownstown Post Office until Monday.

You may request postmarks by mail if you mail one or more stamped items to the Brownstown Post Office and include a stamped, self-addressed envelope for the items to be sent back to you. Orders must be received in the post office by Monday’s deadline.

The first in this series of pictorial postmarks was issued April 26, 2014, for the opening of the 1966 Brownstown Area Sesquicentennial time capsule.

This was followed by a second postmark Jan. 1 for the bicentennial of Jackson County. Limited copies of the previous postmarks are available for purchase at Bicentennial Headquarters, 202 S. Main St., Brownstown, during regular business hours.

Pictorial postmarks are an economical way of collecting bicentennial memorabilia for future generations.
