Erman and Betty Shoemaker of Vallonia will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary Friday. The family will celebrate together at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Columbus, with special service music planned by the couple’s daughter, Lisa.

Erman and the former Betty Hansen were married Easter Sunday, April 1, 1956, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vallonia, officiated by the bride’s father, the late Rev. H.M. Hansen.

They have four children, Lisa (Joe) Lohmeyer of Columbus, Carol Delph of Brownstown, Bruce (Denise) Shoemaker of Vallonia and Julie (David) Dietrich of Columbus; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Erman is a retired lifelong farmer. He served two years in the U.S. Army 11th Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He is a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church and is active in church, especially missions.

Betty is retired and had worked as secretary of Lutheran Central School in Brownstown for 13 years, as organist of Trinity Lutheran Church and as a piano teacher for 30 years.
