SEYMOUR

Virginia Lee Heckman, 87, of Seymour, went to be with her Lord on Monday Feb. 29, 2016, surrounded by family at her home.

Born April 8, 1928, in Bloomington, she was the daughter of Wayne and Fern Murphy May, both of whom preceded her in death. On Aug. 22, 1964, she married Robert Heckman, who survives.

Virginia was a 1944 graduate of Arsenal Tech High School in Indianapolis, and she thought she wanted to be a nurse until she decided she hated the sight of blood. So, she started her career at C.L. Lesh Co. as a secretary and later worked for many years as a bookkeeper at Mel-Rain Corp.

Virginia then moved to Seymour and worked at the Quill & Frill and The Other Place. Later, she partnered with Ann Hess to open The Enchanted Village.

Virginia loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, reading, traveling, playing bridge and euchre and was an avid follower of the Indianapolis 500. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Seymour.

Others survivors besides her husband of almost 52 years, include daughter, Terri (Randy) Malone of Greenwood; son, Fred (Robin) Heckman of Seymour; grandchildren, Lauren Heckman, Michael Malone and Taylor Heckman; and Robert’s sister and brother-in-law Clarence and Emilyann Grelle of Greenwood who introduced Robert and Virginia many years ago.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Morris May; sisters-in-law, Thelma Ruth Mize and Altamae Lill; and her favorite aunt, Frieda Oxnam.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Woodlawn Life Celebration Centre, Seymour. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until time of service Saturday.

Memorials can be made to the donor’s choice of charity.
