Three Jackson County residents were treated and taken to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour on Tuesday morning after a wreck on U.S. 50 at the top of Crane Hill.

The wreck involved a 2004 Buick LeSabre driven by James Lee Christopher, 73, of Brownstown, and a 2008 Ford Fusion driven by Barbara Shipley, 38, of Seymour.

Both Christopher and Shipley were hospitalized at Schneck along with Christopher’s wife, Dorothy Christopher, 75. The extent of their injuries was not available.

Sgt. Stan Darlage with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department said James Christopher was driving east on U.S. 50 when Shipley pulled into the path of his vehicle from County Road 200N.

Darlage said the cause of the wreck, reported at 9:42 a.m. Tuesday, remains under investigation, and it is unclear why Shipley pulled out onto U.S. 50. He also said it was not clear if she was crossing U.S. 50 onto what becomes County Road 175N or planning to head east on U.S. 50 toward Seymour.

Both vehicles wound up off the road, but traffic was forced down to one lane at times while the three people were treated for their injuries by personnel with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services before being taken to the hospital.

Lt. Darin Downs and Sheriff Mike Carothers with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Officer Joe Kelly with the Brownstown Police Department and medical personnel and firefighters with Brownstown Volunteer Fire Department assisted.
