Jackson County Public Library will celebrate Teen Tech Week at the Seymour library with free programming for students in grades 6 through 12 this coming week.

Activities will begin with a Teen Advisory Group meeting at 5 p.m. Monday followed by a visit from the Toyota Mobile Manufacturing Lab from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

At 4:30 p.m. March 10, Seymour Middle School teacher Curt Schleibaum will present a program about Spheros, which are robots that can be programmed to do tasks with apps on smartphones and tablets. The robots can go into water, have the ability to change colors and do much more. Teens will have the chance to steer the robots through an obstacle course in the Teen Scene.

At 4:30 p.m. March 11, participants will have a chance to ask the expert, Gregg Stephani, questions.

Stephani is a mechanical engineer who works at Cummins Inc.’s Seymour Engine Plant. He works on development of suppliers and redesign of base engine components, primarily for the QSK19. The QSK19 is a diesel engine used in self-propelled forage harvesters and other types of high-power agricultural machines that provide maximum performance but require minimum maintenance.

During the program, Stephani will talk about his job and bring small engine parts to explain how Cummins investigates failures and develops improvements for its engines.
