Pirates edge Braves in conference battle

CHARLESTOWN

The Brownstown Central boys tennis team just mustered a pair of wins in a 3-2 loss to Mid-Southern Conference foe Charlestown on Tuesday.

At No. 2 singles, the Braves’ Cole Brock won a hard-fought 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 match against the Pirates’ Tyler Massie.

Riley Carlin and Sam Hoff picked up the other win for the Braves at No. 1 doubles, edging Steven Delaney and Josh Copeland 7-5, 7-5.

The Braves (14-5) will head to Seymour today to finish their match that was postponed two weeks ago.

Owls drop 1st match in Hoosier Hills tourney

JEFFERSONVILLLE

The Seymour boys tennis team couldn’t find a win in a 5-0 loss to Jeffersonville in the first round of the Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament on Monday.

The Owls struggled against a very good Jeff team, not winning more than two games in each of their matches.

The Owls (3-10) will host Jennings County on Wednesday in more HHC tournament action.

VOLLEYBALL

Seymour places 2nd in Franklin Invite

FRANKLIN

The Seymour volleyball team finished second in the Franklin Invitational on Saturday.

In pool play, the Owls defeated Franklin Central 25-18, 25-21 and Decatur Central 25-20, 25-15.

The Owls then bested Noblesville 20-25, 25-17, 15-13 before falling to Franklin Community in the championship game 25-14, 25-15.

Today, the Owls (10-9) will host Silver Creek.
