FRANKLIN

Richard R. Holbrook Sr., 76, of Franklin, formerly of Seymour and Monterey, California, passed away Friday July 24, 2015, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis.

Born Oct. 3, 1938, in Monterey, he was the son of Ralph D. and Mary L. Souza Holbrook, both of whom preceded him in death. On March 24, 1960, in Monterey, he married Sally Ann Angell Holbrook, who preceded him in death July 24, 2001.

He had been a longshoreman in Los Angeles County, California, for 13 years and was a member of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 13. He then was a commercial salmon fisherman in Monterey for 25 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Laura M. Brewster and Sharen F. (Tommy) Brock, both of Franklin; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Richard R. Holbrook Jr. on May 23, 1995, and Thomas Ty Holbrook on May 21, 1984; a daughter, Mary Margaret Hopkins on Oct. 31, 2012; and a son-in-law, Marshall Cash Brewster.

Arrangements are being handled by Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center in Franklin.

His final resting place will be at sea in Monterey.
