The apparent accidental discharge of a weapon in a Seymour motel room Saturday led to the arrest of a man on a charge of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, police reported.

The incident that led to the arrest of Joshua J. Love, 35, of Elizabethtown began after the bullet from the weapon lodged in a mirror in a room on the floor below the room where Love was staying with two other men, Detective C.J. Foster said.

A man, a woman and her two children were in that second room at the Days Inn, 302 S. Commerce Drive, where the bullet wound up; but no one was injured, Foster said.

Foster said Love told police the gun was not his, and he had not seen it before but was checking it out to make sure it was not loaded when it went off about 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Love also told investigators he took drugs Friday night, and the combination of events led to the Level 5 felony charge, Foster said.

Love also faces charges of possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia related to the incident.

Foster said the weapon and bullet were recovered after police obtained search warrants from Jackson Circuit Court.
