Thelma Faye Spurgeon, 94, of Freetown, passed away at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, at her home.

She was a member of Freetown Church of Christ and worked at various factories during her lifetime. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting, and she liked to garden and work in her flower beds.

Born Sept. 6, 1920, in New Castle, she was the daughter of Grant and Margaret Alice Waggoner Gorbett. She married Carl Spurgeon, and he preceded her in death in 1993.

Survivors include her children, Audrey Cobb, Larry Jack Spurgeon, Thomas (Dorothy Nell) Spurgeon, Barbara (Bill) Hall Jr., Teresa Spurgeon and Steven (Kimberly) Spurgeon; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph Gorbett, Rolando Gorbett, Aaron Gorbett, Russell Gorbett and George Earl Gorbett; and sisters, Leathy Waggoner, Lela Jolly, Marie Pugh, Velva Hall, Veva Craig and Vina Wile.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Gorbett’s Chapel Church in Freetown. Pastor Mark Steven Hafenbreidel will officiate. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Winklepleck-Weesner Funeral Home in Brownstown or after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
