People’s Bank junior league team wins softball championship

On Wednesday, the Junior League girls softball championship took place at the Seymour High School softball field.

The Peoples Bank from Seymour defeated the Crothersville Lady Tigers 18-5 to secure the championship. A walk-off grand slam from June Emily ended the game due to a run-rule.

The Peoples Bank ended their season with a perfect 11-0 record.

Players on the team consisted of Ailey Abner, Preslee Joray, Joesy Lynch, Mya Wheeler, Blair Sheldon, Mikenna Smith, Kyrra Smith, Brooklyn Shippee and Emily.

Head coaches were Sarah Wheeler and Andrea Shelton with assistant coaches being Ron Abner, Brandon Joray, Tyler Shippee and Mary Winburn.

Penny Banks (The People’s Bank Mascot) even joined afterwards to help celebrate with the team.

Coach Wheeler wanted to thank Seymour High School for allowing them to have the game on the field.

The Lady Tigers finished their season with a record of 6-7.

The Tigers roster consisted of Alayna Justice, Kinley Burns, Emerie Niccum, Lillian Greathouse, Izabella Pruett, Faith Scott, Miya Sears-Hendley, Charlea Boicourt, Christie Dalzell, Evelyn Dunton, Alaikah Love and Rae-Marie Jackson.

Coaches were Mason Boicourt, Tim Justice, and Jamy Greathouse

Junior League games were played at Kasting Park during the season. Crothersville had a full team spot in the Seymour Youth League this season.

Boicourt, who also is the Crothersville Youth League vice president, said he wanted to thank some people for this season including the Seymour Youth League and Scott County teams for playing with them this season. He also thanked Cerrowire for their scoreboard donation this season.

He also thanked the volunteer coaches for all their hard work this season.
