Monroe Lake is partnering with Brown County State Park and the Hoosier National Forest for Salt Creek Valley History Week Sept. 11 through 17.

During this annual dive into the stories, families and locations of the Salt Creek Valley pre-1960, visitors can tour historic cemeteries, learn about the history and origin of local park lands, explore the lives of former residents and enjoy historic crafts and games.

All programs during Salt Creek Valley History Week are offered free of charge; however, property admission fees apply at Brown County State Park and Paynetown State Recreation Area. Some programs also will require advance registration.

The week kicks off with a virtual presentation, “The Mormons Come to Salt Creek Township,” at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 11 on Facebook Live.

The entrance fee at both Brown County State Park and Paynetown SRA is $7 per vehicle with an Indiana license plate and $9 per vehicle with out-of-state plates. Indiana State Parks annual entrance permits are accepted at both locations.
