MEDORA

Doris Woods, of Medora, passed away on the early afternoon of August 13, 2023, at Hoosier Christian Village surrounded by her loving family. She was 77 years old.

Doris entered this life on August 4, 1946, in Freetown, Indiana. She was the last born to the late Ted and Marie (Grider) Stafford. She was the little sister to Robert, Cletes, MaryAnn and Janet. Doris lived in Jackson County her whole life, never travelling far from home. She attended Medora Community Schools, and then later went to college and her associate in business administration from Oakland City University. On December 4, 1965, at Brownstown Nazarene Church she was united in marriage to Ross Woods. This union was blessed with a son JD.

She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and Grandma. Doris had a creative soul. She loved painting on canvas, playing her music, and scrapbooking. She also loved her bible studies. She deeply cared about her family and friends. She would often give advice when needed and would also give her opinion on situations whether it was needed or not.

Doris was the first female Sheriff’s Deputy of Jackson County, and this also made her the first female Sheriff’s Deputy in the state of Indiana. She then later went to work at Valeo Sylvania. After 18 years, she retired from Valeo and went to work for Home Depot of Seymour part-time. Her manager asked her to fill out new pricing displays for the shelving and noticed her unique penmanship. Her penmanship became the standard font that every customer sees in every Home Depot across the USA.

She leaves a legacy of love with her husband of over 57 years, Ross Woods of Medora, a son JD Woods and his wife Heather of Crothersville, two grandchildren Kolbey Mount of Crothersville, and Kasen Mount of Deputy and a great-grandson Jentree.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings, Robert E Stafford, Cletes Baxter, MaryAnn Ault, and Janet Warmalink.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday August 14, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Hague Funeral Home of Medora with Pastor Floyd Fisher and Pastor Chris Criminger officiating. Burial will follow at White River Valley Cemetery.

Friends may visit on Friday August 18, 2023, from 10:00 am until the time of the service at Hague Funeral Home
