Cathy Ann (Phillips) Smith, of Medora, passed away peacefully on the morning of August 9, 2023, at Seymour Crossing surrounded by her loving family. She was 66 years old.

Cathy entered this life on June 7, 1957, in Bedford, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late Dean and June (Shelton) Phillips. She grew up in Medora and was graduate from the Medora Community Schools, Class of 1975. Cathy spent most of her life in Jackson County, never traveling far from Medora. On June 8, 1975, less than a month after her graduation, Cathy was united in marriage to the love of her life, Terry Smith, at the Medora Christian Church. This union was blessed with five children, Valerie, Angela, James, Whitney, and Keicia.

Cathy was a devoted wife, loving mother, and Me-maw. She worked at Phillips Dairy Bar of Medora, before deciding to be a stay-at-home mom for her children. She was a member of the Medora Christian Church. She was an avid gardener and would often play the piano for her family.

Her memories will be forever be cherished by her family, her husband of over 48 years, Terry Smith, son James Smith, daughters, Whitney Hallett and Keicia Smith, sixteen grandchildren, Brandon Smith, Destiny Terrell, Brianna Smith, Nathaniel Burgess, Jonathon Burgess, Synthia Hemmingway, Daisha Hemmingway, Erica Hemmingway, Mariah York, Willa Belcher, Madison Mitchell, Emarie Hallett, Waylon Hallett, Victor Equizabal, Wyatt Equizabal, Saphira Strunk, twelve great-grandchildren, and sisters Ginger East of Bedford, Vicky Phillips of Vermont, and Tammy McPike and her husband Jeff of Medora.

She was preceded in death by her daughters, Valerie Smith, and Angela Hemingway, two grandchildren, Matthew Smith and Brighton Mitchell, a brother Roger Phillips, and a brother-in-law Marty East.

Funeral Services will be conducted at the Medora Christian Church at 11:00 am on Monday August 14, 2023, with Jeff McPike officiating. Burial will follow at White River Valley Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday August 13, 2023, from 3:00 – 7:00 pm at Hague Funeral Home of Medora and after 10:00 am until time of the service on Monday at the Medora Christian Church.

Memorials may be written in Cathy’s memory to Schneck Hospice and “Hope” Medora Goes Pink.

Final services have been entrusted to Hague Funeral Home of Medora.
