Trinity Lutheran front-court star Sydney Jaynes was one of the nominees for the District 3 girls player of the week recognition.

Jaynes, a 6-foot-3 center-forward, a senior who is closing in on 1,500 career points, was the only local boys or girls player nominated for the week’s play between Jan. 12 and 23.

The award is administered by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association and Franciscan Health.

The Cougars are the No. 1-ranked team in Class A. Regular-season play concludes for Trinity on Thursday against Madison at home at 7:30 p.m. leading up to next week’s sectionals. Trinity is 17-4 on the season.
