Five people have been arrested for severely beating a man at a local motel over money he allegedly owed for drugs, police report.

At 9:16 p.m. Oct. 15, the Seymour Police Department received a call from Schneck Medical Center about an 18-year-old male assault victim who had been pistol-whipped in the head, suffering a laceration and a bruised jawbone.

Officer Jessiah Watts spoke with the victim, who said he owed someone $200 for an ounce of marijuana and they “jumped him because he had not paid them,” according to the incident report.

The victim told police the person he owed money to was Patrick Silvers and the beating had taken place at a local motel a little before 8:30 p.m. on the east side of Seymour, where the victim had been hanging out with friends.

Silvers, 20, of Bedford was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 5:28 p.m. Tuesday on charges of burglary, confinement, kidnapping, battery resulting in serious bodily injury, theft and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.

The victim said others involved in jumping him were Paige Bowman aka Jacqueline Paige Silvers, Isaiah Emery, Shannon Barger and James Gibbs.

Jacqueline Silvers, 26, and Emery, 22, both of Brownstown, face charges of burglary, confinement, kidnapping, battery resulting in serious bodily injury, theft and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.

Barger, 18, of Seymour faces charges of theft, confinement and battery resulting in serious bodily injury.

Gibbs, 18, of Brownstown faces charges of theft, confinement and burglary.

Security footage shows the beating started in the parking lot of the motel after the victim and a friend went to retrieve a fountain drink from a vehicle, Watts said.

While two of the suspects followed the victim, Jacqueline Silvers followed the victim’s friend into the motel room, holding him and another male at gunpoint, according to a news release from Lt. C.J. Foster.

Once the victim made it back to the room, he was struck several more times by the suspects, including twice in the head by the rear end of a handgun wielded by one of the male assailants, according to police reports.

The victim told police the man held the gun to his head, threatening him and his daughter if he didn’t pay up.

Besides assaulting him, the victim reported the suspects stole his cellphone, cigarettes, a pack of gum and his house keys along with his friend’s cellphone, two dogs and a tattoo gun.

The dogs were later found tied up in Vallonia and returned unharmed.

Security footage showed the assailants left the motel at 8:30 p.m. in a Honda Odyssey van, which was later located in Brownstown by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and Brownstown Police Department.

The investigation is ongoing, and more arrests are expected, Foster said. The incident is not related to previous drug-related violence cases that happened earlier this month and in September.

Also assisting with the case were SPD Sgt. Jim Handley, Officer Armando Pasillas, Detectives Michael Payne and Michael Henley and Officer Joshua Daniel.
