Parks department conducts Halloween-themed Kids Corner

From the coloring to the story to the painting, everything revolved around Halloween during this month’s Kids Corner session.

Seymour Parks and Recreation Department Administrative Assistant Tonya Disque and new Program Director Justin Kiel led the activities Thursday morning at the Seymour Community Center.

First, coloring sheets were distributed to the nine boys and girls, and they could use crayons or markers to bring color to their image.

While the kids colored, Disque read “Pete the Cat: Five Little Pumpkins” by James Dean.

Next, the kids walked up to a table to choose their small pumpkin to paint. They had the choice of regular or glow-in-the-dark paint and could create any design they wanted. Plus, they could add eye stickers or other accessories.

Finally, they enjoyed orange treats, including cheeseballs, iced sugar cookies and Orange Ocean Hawaiian Punch.

The final two Kids Corner sessions of the year are at 10 a.m. Nov. 12 and Dec. 17 at the community center, 107 S. Chestnut St., Seymour. The cost is $5.

November’s meeting will include the book “There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Turkey,” an old lady paper bag game and a snack.

December’s meeting will be a Christmas party.
