Cougars fall short of sectional titles

It was a busy day for the Trinity Lutheran boys and girls soccer teams as the competed for sectional championships.

Both Cougar teams set off against Providence, who is ranked in the top-10 in Class A in both polls, for a chance at some hardware.

On the boys’ side, the Pioneers wasted no time showing the Cougars who the better side was winning 11-0 to claim their eighth straight sectional title.

The Pioneers blitzed the Cougars in the first half to take a 7-0 lead into the break. They piled on in the second and left the Cougars little opportunities to score.

Providence had two players end the day with hat tricks.

In Clarksville, the Trinity Lutheran girls team fared much better against the host Pioneers, but fell 1-0.

The Cougars came out much tougher than the Pioneers expected and kept the game scoreless for the first 40 minutes.

Neither the Pioneers nor the Cougars were able to establish themselves in the first half with both sides coming away with equal parts of the offensive possession.

That all changed in the second half when the Pioneers’ Avery Stumler scored the game-winning goal just a minute into the second half.

The Trinity Lutheran boys soccer team finishes the year with a 3-12 record while the girls end their season at 9-6.
