Boys Tennis
Braves place second at Scottsburg Invite
The Brownstown Central Braves took second, just two points behind Franklin, at Friday and Saturday’s Scottsburg Invite.
The No. 2 and No. 3 singles players, Ethan Davis and Kelian East, both went 2-1 over the weekend to finish third. The No. 1 doubles tandem of Reece Carlin and Griffin Stidam also went 2-1 to take third.
The two doubles pair, Trent Luedeman and Cole Shasteen, made it to the championship match but fell to take second.
Ethan Isaacs was a perfect 3-0 over the weekend to win the No. 1 singles title.
Girls Soccer
Owls drop tough game to East Central
After coming home for the past two games, the Owls went back on the road but had a tough match with East Central, losing 7-1.
Alyssa Perry scored the lone goal for the Owls while Kate Snook had eight saves and Ellen Zabor had three.
Boys Soccer
Owls fall to No. 5 Center Grove
Class 3A fifth-ranked Center Grove came to town and throttled the Owls 6-1.
Cross Country
Jackson County teams compete at Crawford County
It was a good day for Jackson County runners at the Crawford County Invitational.
The Seymour girls took home third place while Brownstown Central came in 14th. Makenna Sunbury was the top finisher for the Owls in sixth while Jazzlyn Yeadon was 52nd for the Braves. Kaylyn Holman finished 16th as the top finisher for Crothersville.
In the boys’ race, Seymour took fourth with Brownstown Central grabbing 11th. Top finisher for Seymour was Luke Plummer in 18th while Nathan Koch was 22nd as the top man for the Braves. David Rose finished 26th as the top finisher for the Tigers.
Volleyball
Owls go 3-1 at Franklin
Seymour bounced back from a Thursday night loss to Southport with three wins at the Franklin Invite.
The Owls downed Decatur Central, Southmont and Lawrence Central but fell to Batesville in their four-game skid.
Maggie Connell led the Owls with 31 kills for the day, followed by Sophia Stahl and Chloe Criswell, who had 21 and 17, respectively. Stahl also had two aces and 25 digs.
Hayley Harpe was a perfect 36-for-36 on her serves and also had a team-leading 79 assists. Jayla Gambrel led the Owls with four aces while Lauren Knienem had a team-leading 34 digs.
Braves battle at New Albany Invite
The Brownstown Central volleyball team went 3-1 at the New Albany invite on Saturday.
The Braves scored wins against New Albany, Jasper and Jeffersonville but fell to Floyd Central.
Kendra McCory led the Braves with 25 kills, followed closely by Keeli Darlage, who had 24. Addi Wilkerson was another top hitter for BC with 11 kills.
Riley Nuss was near perfect on serves for the day, going 32-for-33 with three aces. McCory and Kayla Guthrie also had three aces.
