IHSAA announces sectional changes for baseball and softball
The IHSAA released the baseball and softball sectional realignments for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 school years.
Brownstown Central saw some changes in both baseball and softball. The Braves will no longer face Providence in baseball sectional 30 but will add Madison. In softball, Brownstown Central will just add Madison.
In Class A, Trinity Lutheran baseball will move from sectional 61 to sectional 60. They’ll now be in a grouping with Hauser, Jac-Cen-Del, Oldenburg Academy and Rising Sun. The softball team moved to sectional 62 and will face Henryville, New Washington, Rock Creek Academy and Shawe Memorial.
Crothersville baseball moves to sectional 62 alongside New Washington, West Washington and Shawe Memorial.
Seymour was unaffected in both sports.
Girls Golf
Owls finish runner-up at Mooresville Invite
On Saturday, the Seymour girls golf team fought against some tough competition at the Mooresville High School Invite and came away with a runner-up finish in the first flight.
Seniors Bridget Marshall and Laken Waskom carded a 75 to finish second to Castle while Lainey Jackson and Phoebe Skidmore combined for a 90 for fifth place.
Teams included in the invite were: No. 11 Center Grove, Castle, No. 16 Hamilton Southeastern, No. 15 Noblesville, Lawrence Central, Decatur Central, Mooresville, Perry Meridian, Shelbyville, North Central and Avon in addition to the Owls.
Volleyball
East hands Seymour first loss
Seymour’s short unbeaten streak came to end Tuesday night against Hoosier Hills Conference rival Columbus East.
The Owls fought hard but fell 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 19-25, 13-25) to the Olympians.
Cougars roll Waldron
It had been awhile since the Trinity Lutheran volleyball team had taken the court. Yet, on Tuesday night, the Cougars didn’t show any rust, sweeping Waldron 25-5, 25-12, 25-14.
Hannah Sabotin led the way in the hitting department for the Cougars with 17 kills. She was also 21-for-21 on hitting attempts. Kennedy Hoffman was 20 of 22 attempts with 11 kills and was the only other Cougar player with double-digit kills.
Sabotin also had a team-leading four aces, followed by Kamzi Gross with three and Bailey Reynolds with two. Reynolds was perfect with her set attempts, going 51-for-51 with 27 assists.
Orleans tops Tigers
Crothersville dropped a tough match to Orleans on Tuesday night 3-0 (13-25, 21-25, 22-25).
Bekah Cook led the Tigers in hits, going 21 of 25 with five kills. Kennadi Lakens was 8-for-9 with a kill. Makayla Helt was 20-for-21 on serves with six aces and Cook was a perfect 11 of 11 with an ace.
