Police responding to a report of a possible overdose Monday arrested a 24-year-old Jennings County man on a preliminary charge of possession of methamphetamine.
Nicholas Barlow of North Vernon was booked into the Jennings County Jail on that charge at 7:50 p.m. and was being held on a $1,355 bond pending his initial hearing.
According to a news release from Jennings County Chief Deputy David Turner, Barlow was arrested by officers who responded to the report of a possible overdose at the old school in Vernon at about 7:35 p.m. Monday.
Upon arrival, Officer Craig Hahn made contact with a male subject who was standing near a vehicle. The man, later identified as Nicholas, was alert and conscious.
While speaking with Hahn, Sgt. Cody Low and Deputy Doug Brown arrived to assist.
Upon further investigation, Low reported seeing a bag containing 2.5 grams of a crystal substance in the seat of the vehicle belonging to Barlow.
Barlow was checked by Jennings County Emergency Medical Services personnel at the scene and refused treatment.
