Thumbs-up to Rose Acre Farms for donating 3,600 dozen eggs to the St. Vincent de Paul’s food pantry in Indianapolis on Tuesday. With the donation, the Seymour egg producer hit the million-family mark of feeding Indiana families over the past several years.
Enough
I must commend you on the editorial regarding gun control in the March 3 edition of The Tribune. It took a lot of courage to stand up to our representatives and populace with such a forceful and compelling opinion. I will go out of my way to pass this editorial around among my friends and neighbors. Thanks again for your common sense recommendations to help put a damper, if not an end, to mass shootings in this country.

Helping hands
Thumbs-up to the motorists who stopped and helped members of a Medora family injured Sunday morning when their sport utility vehicle experienced a tire malfunction and crashed in the northbound lanes of Interstate 65 near the Jonesville exit. Seven people were injured in the crash.
Top organizers
Thumbs-up to the Seymour Noon Lions Club for organizing the annual Indiana Special Olympics Basketball Tournament Saturday at Seymour Middle School. It’s a project the club has been doing since the first tournament was conducted in 1983. A related thumbs-up to members of Seymour High School’s freshman boys basketball squad for helping staff the event in several capacities, including serving as referees.
Supportive students
Thumbs-up to the more than 75 sixth-graders at the Seymour Middle School Sixth Grade Center for writing letters of support to the students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, where 14 students and three staff members were killed during a Feb. 14 shooting.
Still flying
Thumbs-up to the Seymour High School gymnastics team for qualifying for the 46th annual IHSAA Gymnastics State Finals to be conducted Saturday in Ball State University’s Worthen Arena. Members of the squad, coached by Angie Mellencamp, are Jailyn Aynes, Ivy Brown, Allie DeHart, Avery DeHart, Nicole Elmore, Grace Furlow, Brett Kleber, Larssyn Maisel, Shelby Scott and Kellsye Warner. This marks just the second time Seymour gymnasts, who advanced by finishing third Saturday in the Columbus East Regional, have competed in the state finals. The other time was in 2012.
Star struck
Thumbs-up to everyone involved with Trinity Lutheran High School, which recently received a Four Star rating for the 2016-17 school year by the Indiana Department of Education. It’s the fifth time in six years the school received the rating, which recognizes schools that receive an A on the state’s A-F accountability system; have high ISTEP or end of course assessment pass and graduation rates; and shows success in preparing students for college and/or the workforce.
