Baseball

Errors doom Cougars

OLDENBURG

The Trinity Lutheran baseball team fell to Oldenburg Academy 7-6 on Tuesday.

The Cougars built a 2-1 lead in the first but gave up two runs in the second, fourth and sixth while committing six errors.

Down 5-2, the Cougars allied three runs in the fifth inning.

Oldenburg responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Jake Moore was charged with the loss for the Cougars.

Thursday, the Cougars (10-4) play at South Decatur.

Braves beats Orleans

ORLEANS

The Brownstown Central baseball team built a four-run lead through three inning and never looked back en route to a 7-3 victory at Orleans on Tuesday.

Brownstown out-hit the Bulldogs 13-5 in the contest, led by three singles and a double by senior Zech Wesley.

Sy Zickler hit a homer in the third and finished with three RBIs.

Zach McCory had a pair of singles and Ty Maxie had a single and double.

On the mound, Cody Williams earned the win pitching six innings.

Williams tossed eight strikeouts while giving up four hits and three walks.

Maxie threw a pair of strikeouts in relief.

Girls tennis

Braves edge Panthers

BROWNSTOWN

The Brownstown Central girls tennis team relied on a pair of doubles wins to secure a 3-2 victory over visiting Jennings County on Tuesday.

Sydney Cockerham and Brooklyn winner won a marathon match at No. 2 doubles for the Braves over Maddy Hill and Haille Harmon.

After dropping the opening set 6-4, the duo took the second 7-5 in a tiebreaker.

The third set went to the Braves at 6-3.

At No. 1 doubles, Brownstown’s Jordan Trowbridge and Bridget Hall took the first set 6-1 before winning a tiebreaker in the second 7-2 over JC’s Elaine Lykins and Adrianne Garris.

On Saturday, the Braves (4-7) play at Seymour.

Owls shut out Stars

The Seymour girls tennis team had little trouble against Hoosier Hills Conference foes Bedford North Lawrence, as they held home court with a 5-0 win.

Hallie Crenshaw won at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-0, Megan Baurle took No. 2 6-2, 6-2 and Addie Rudge triumphed 6-1, 6-3 for No. 3.

The Owls continued to mix up their doubles play.

Both the No. 1 doubles team of Emma Wood and Lindsey Hume and No. 2 tandem of Katie O’Mara and Grace Otte won 6-0, 6-0.

Thursday, the Owls (8-2) host Providence.

Jets top Cougars

HOPE

Despite a pair of singles wins, the Trinity Lutheran girls tennis team fell just short to Hauser 3-2 on Tuesday.

At No. 1 singles Aurora Willman picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win for the Cougars over Maycie Asher 6-1, 6-0.

Courtney Barker downed Alana Owen 6-3, 6-1 to secure another Trinity win.

In the No. 3 singles spot, the Jets’ Maddie Sherman bested Kelly Adams 6-2, 6-0.

The No. 1 doubles team of Annie Ashbrook and Sarah Tedder beat Trinity’s Olivia Benter and Abby Schult 6-2, 6-4.

Leah Stuckwisch and Sidney Hoene fell to Natalie Taylor and Tannyr Davis 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Saturday, the Cougars (2-9) play in their conference tournament at Shawe Memorial.

Softball

Tigers blanked

HENRYVILLE

The Crothersville softball team had one hit in a 15-0 loss at Henryville on Tuesday.

Henryville amassed 15 hits on the day with three doubles and a triple.

Carlee Persinger was charged the loss in the circle.

Floyd downs Braves

FLOYDS KNOBS

The Class 4A No. 1 Floyd Central softball team defeated Brownstown Central 20-2 in five innings on Monday.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Highlanders tallied 13 runs.

Trialing 2-0 to start the third, the Braves’ Katelyn Gray led off with a homer to center field.

Gray hit a double in the fifth to score Lisa Scott, but the Braves trailed by 18 runs.

Jami Bryant also had to hits for the Braves.

Floyd Central out hit Brownstown 22-7 in the contest.

Bryant was charged the loss in the circle.

Tomorrow, Brownstown (4-10) travels to Charlestown in a Mid-Southern Conference matchup.

Boys golf

Cougars win again

SALEM/SEYMOUR

The Trinity Lutheran boys golf team defeated Salem on the road on Monday and Hauser at Shadowood Golf Course on Tuesday.

The Cougars totaled 167 to Hauser’s 208.

Trinity’s Cory Stuckwisch and Jonathan Keith tied for medalist at 40 (+4).

Skyler Stahl was next for the Cougars at 43, Chad Stuckwisch 44, Jacob Keith 45 and Drew Royalty 47.

Led by Jacob Keith’s medalist score of 39, the Cougars golf team carded a 164 to Salem’s 184 on Monday at Western Hills.

Stahl and Drew Royalty each totaled 44s.

Track and field

Tigers 4th at meet

AUSTIN

The Crothersville track and field team battled Henryville, New Washington and Austin on Monday in a tri-meet.

Henryville won the girls’ meet with 102 points and the Tigers were fourth at 34.

Breanna Barter ran in all of the Tigers’ first-place finishes.

She won the 100 in 13.39, 400 at 1:03 and joined Piper Hensley, Katrina Christian and Tristan Maschino in the 4×800 to combine for 11:17.

Cassidy Mantz cleared 4-8 for second in the high jump and Cassidy Mantz got silver in the long jump leaping 10-5.

Alisha Basil was third in the 3,200 (16:24) while Maschino placed the same in the 800 (2:50).

The 1,600 saw Hensley clock 5:20 for third.

The Hornets edged Austin in the boys’ contest by one point, with 66, and Crothersville scored 24 points for third.
