Mary Jane Hastings, age 90, and a resident of Seymour, Indiana, passed from this life on July 1, 2024, at Schneck Medical Center.

Jane was born June 24, 1934, in Muncie Indiana to Clifford and Esther Lambert. She was the thirteenth of fourteen children. She married Gerald Hastings on November 27, 1952, at the Madison Street Methodist Church. Jane was a 1952 graduate of Muncie Central High School and remained a Bearcat for life. She worked for Muncie Credit Bureau before moving to Seymour with her husband in 1964, and soon embarked on the most rewarding job of her life – mother to her two children, Kevin and Julie. She then became a beloved grandma to Kevin Jr., Evan, and her golden grand dog, Chesney.

Jane was a firm believer in her faith and was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, making Trinity United Methodist Church in Seymour, Indiana her home for the past 60 years. She was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan and looked forward to baseball season every year.

She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Gerald Hastings of Seymour, Indiana, two children, Kevin Hastings Sr, and his wife Pam and Julie Hastings of Seymour, Indiana. Two grandchildren, Kevin Hastings Jr., and Evan Hastings. One sister, Betty Sewell of Greenwood, Indiana, and numerous nieces and nephews. One sister in law, Cherylyn Lambert of Seymour, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers, Donald Lambert, Charles Lambert, Paul Lambert, Bill Lambert, Bob Lambert, Howard Lambert, Leroy “Dutch” Lambert and Roger Lambert. Four sisters, Thema Lambert, Mildred Springman, Dorothy Lambert and Leona Lambert.

The family received friends on Friday, July 5, 2024, from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Christensen Family Funeral Home – Seymour Chapel. Family and friends met for Graveside services at 2:00 PM at the Garden of Memory Cemetery in Muncie, Indiana.

Memorials may be directed to Trinity United Methodist Church of Seymour or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
